West Hollywood City Council: Brick Break

On a computer: click the game to start, then move the agenda packet with the arrow keys or the mouse. P recesses the meeting, M turns the sound off, F goes full screen. On a phone: tap Play full screen and turn your phone sideways; drag left and right to move the packet. Play full screen.

Byers, Hang, and Erickson throw motions from the dais. You are at the back of the room with an agenda packet and three minutes of public comment. Knock their motions back through the gallery, where every seat you clear opens a path to the dais, and land three returns on each of them to gavel all three off before the item passes.

Each minute that runs down on the speaker timer casts a yes vote; three votes and the item passes. Every motion that gets past you costs ten seconds. Meister and Mayor Heilman drop twenty-second extensions if you can catch them, and the City Attorney raises an FPPC block over whoever needs it most.

The agenda runs four items, one for each of Erickson’s looks on the council: cancel the Flock contract, fast-track the Fountain Avenue bike lane, defund the L.A. County Sheriff, and ban single-family homes.

Satire. The agenda items, the motions, and the vote tallies are invented for the game; they are not quotations, and they are not records of any motion, item, or vote. The gallery figures are generic drawings, not likenesses of anyone. The voice clips are Erickson’s own words from public council meetings, played as spoken.
